Sadly beggars, if good make pretty good money. It gives a bad name to those in real need.

Because very poor people have no choice when begging on corners. I guess they feel humiliated and embarrassed. Besides, I wonder what would be your reaction if a poor person looked you right in the eyes and asked you for money! You'd think they had a lot of nerve, and arrogant besides everything else! Because that's the way people behave when they are walking on the sidewalks and going about their business!. Poverty disturbs us! And most of the time, the very poor people would be too shy to ask anyway.

Now-a-days, there are a lot of young kids doing it and some of them are aggressive and sometimes scare the hell out of elderly people walking by...

I hope you never have to go through this.

To make themselves look as low and poor as possible to get more money. There is also a practical reason. If they were standing and begging all day, their legs would ache.

Because they are ashamed and embarrassed. How do u think u would feel if u had to beg on the streets?

I think some of them are ashamed to ask for money so they hide their face even though tthye need to ebg to survive.

On the internet, i saw this philipino guy cut his leg open to get more money and sympothy from people. He had a huge open gash in his leg for gods sake and he still sat there dragging himself around begging for change. I dont give to beggars unless its a sunday, ya know?

Yeh its been said above, to make themselves look low as possible,the same pose has been used by beggers as far back as Biblical times as told by historians.In India local gangs exploit beggars by amputating their limbs.
