The Mini Cooper looks like it would get caught in the grooves of a truck's tires. I don't trust the safety issue due to its very small size. They're cute, but ...
I'd go for the VW

Rabbit- more space, more comfortable compared to the mini cooper, its probably the more practical of the two and get more car for your money.. this is the car your parents would buy. its a normal car.
Mini- The 2007 MINI is a new model soo it is different from the previous mini. its more refined and safer compared to the prevous model. but it has less room than the rabbit, for which u get go kart cornering! the style is unique and you wont see your parents driving one of these.
if you want refinement practicality ease of use and you like normality then the rabbit is your best bet!
BUT you want something exciting stylish and sporty... damnit the mini cooper is the only way to go!
The new mini cooper is more reliable now because its using a new BMW engine, the previous mini cooper was using an old model chrysler engine. IMO both the rabbit and mini 2007 are reliable.
Ive driven a mini and golf and i loved the mini cooper!
So i suggest you test drive both and you will know for sure which one you like cause the mini isnt for everybody.. which is why its also more rare! making it even more so attractive

I don't know about the Coop but the new Vw's are crap. They're made in mexico and the workers just don't have the experience that the germans do. This is not a statement about mexican labor. Its a statement about years of auto experience.
if you want a reliable engine Toyota is the way to go. They have the best record on the market today. Good luck.
To the guy who suggested the Hummer; how many soilders have to die before you get it? maybe the suggestion for the gas guzzler is a compensation for small anatomy.

Go for the Mini. They're made by BMW - much more reliable than VW. My sister owns one and she's put over $7,000 into it (turbo). That thing is super fast! Also, Minis don't lose their resale value as fast as VWs.

I'd rather have a Mini, though they are more dangerous and more expensive. They just look awesome. Rabbits are great too - but a totally different feel. I would feel sexier in a Mini, but more secure in a Rabbit. That's why I drive a Subaru!
