I checked my credit report today and noticed that one of my previous addresses is located in New York. I have never even been to New York! I recently closed my one and only credit card, therefore I feel I am pretty safe...however should I report the error?

Yes you should cause you never know who had access to your information you could have closed it but if a person knows your information they can open it right back up. You can never be too safe when it comes to your identity and credit. It could really effect your future.

Yes, you should report it. It may be a simple mistake, but it could cause you to look like you move around a lot when trying to rent an apartment or buy a house. But it could also be a sign that someone is applying for credit in your name and using a NY address. Report it, and keep an eye on your credit report regularly to make sure nothing else unusual comes up.

Definitely report it. It may be a genuine mistake but may also be a sign someone is trying to use your name to get some kind of credit in NY.

Anyway, no matter how insignificant, always report errors on your credit file.

Why did you close your credit card? You should keep it open though you don't use it. Closing accounts cuts short your credit history.

Dispute it online yes. Additional addresses defer lenders from lending to you, if they think you move around a lot.
Worth the effort, if it continues to happen, you will also have additional addresses that are incorrect. Make sure no one else is using your personal information.

To be franck with you... in the bank's point of view they always tell us to cross check any infomation before we leave the bank or the counter.. which is meant to be of our own safe,,, PLease do inform the bank immediately since the issue is quite alraming for the moment and a major danger is visible......in near future.....

Report it. It could be a simple error.

However, you may have someone using your identity. You definitely do not want to be a victim of identity theft.

Always report wrong information. It could come back to bite you years later.
