I am writting a job application letter in English (which is not my first language) and am wondering which one of these expressions would be correct?
1) "employment opportunities in your laboratory"
2) "employment opportunities at your laboratory"
Thank you!

Thanks everybody, sounds good.
What if I want to expand it and say:
"employment opportunities at your laboratory at (in?) the XYZ University".
Is it still "at"?

#2, because you're talking about the laboratory as a general institution, which includes offices, bathrooms, hallways, meeting rooms, etc.

#1 would be used if you're talking about being in the specific room with all the laboratory equipment.

The correct answer is number one. The preposition 'at' is only to be used if you are talking about a general location. 'In' is used to denote more specific location or area not just a place. Your expanded sentence should read " employment opportunities in your laboratory at XYZ University."

Remember: you are using written communication. Oral language has more freedom in acceptable variation but written language will be judged more harshly and therefore, will have a more lasting effect. It may sound better to say it one way, but you must consider your audience.

I think the best would be to say "employment opportunities within your laboratory." Also, remember that it is spelled "writing" and not "writting."

Both versions seem correct but the second feels better. Another alernative might be "employment opportunites with your laboratory", but I still think "at" sounds best.

At is best.

"In" just gives me a mental image of you only willing to work when inside a laboratory and doing nothing at or around it.
