Infantrymen are REAL soldiers. Anyone else is a mockery.

Being an Infantryman is a great calling, but don't expect it to be an
easy life at all.You see the Infantryman is like the Queen on the
Chessboard..She can go anywhere...No Army can call itself an
Army without a decent Infantry.

As for your survival rate in combat...well...it could be much
better. But with proper training and good leadership any
die hard Infantryman can be a great success. My hat is off
to you.Just remember to do your best and take courses
(Civilian and Military) while you are in ..that way if you don't
like it,you still have worked to broaden you options.

If you are looking at making the military a career and you know 100% without a doubt in your mind that you will make a career of it, then any combat MOS is a good choice. Mainly because you can advance faster in combat MOS's than others, because there are more of them compared to support MOS's.

If you do not plan to make the military a career, then pick a career field that you would be interested in. Something you can use after you get out.

Yes and no. Hard training, ruined knees, days spent out in the wet or hot or cold. I'll tell you though...being a grunt is getting a family. I spent time on base with my husband and there is hell to pay...but there is fun and good times too. If you want a military career...go Infantry. However there is no rl equivalent...other than being a cop or a merc so consider that side of it. And no mater what the Army says...don't listen. 'Hey guys...you'll get off early today!' No you wont. 'This will be easy' Not at all.

The military keeps record on how long they expect a particular MOS to survive if thrown into combat. But I wouldn't pay too much attention to that; even support personnel (like truck drivers) are getting plenty of action (in fact, in this war, it's one of the most dangerous MOS's).
You can probably figure out it's more dangerous than being a cook, but in guerilla wars like this one, there are few safe places.

The Grunt is the backbone of the Army. Every other MOS is in support of the infantry's mission. You learn alot about yourself when your a grunt. You may not learn how to fix computers or repair jet engines, but you learn other things just as important. Such as leadership skills, self respect, self confidence and work ethic. You'll never find anyone put you down for choosing to be Infantry. I was an 11B and it still to this day is one of my fondest memories. Good luck with whatever your choice is. FOLLOW ME!

The infantry are first to combat, whether Marine or Army. It is the most dangerous, I would imagine, but there are many who want that kind of challenge. Whether it is a bad choice is your decision. The main drawback I see is that if you should decide to leave the Army, there is really very little call for infantry in civilian life.

It's not a bad choice if it's what you want to do. I wouldn't say it's like signing your life away; no unit in Iraq has had the 120%+ casualty rates that were common in WWII. As long as you know you're in greater risk, I wouldn't worry. Worry would take your mind off the mission objective, anyway.

No, infantry is the best. I wouldn't have dated my now husband if he had been supply or something else. There's just something about being 11B (army infantry). It also opens doors to other areas of combat arms. Definitely hooah! Over his 14 yrs, he's been around the world, done all kinds of crazy stuff and for the most part, loved it! Like everything, it has its ups and downs but there's nothing like it!

No it isn't. But when you get to your final duty station look into getting additional training in another MOS so when you get out into the civilian world you have additional training and experience in another field. Be safe and thank you.
