My friends and I are filming a movie. It's the biggest production we have ever done and we hope to enter it in an independant film festival. It's based on a book and we have the author's permission.
My character has long red hair. My hair is brown, extremely damaged and brown. I want to get extensions and dye it red before we start filming (late May). What can I do to help fix my hair before I have to dye it?

damage is irreversable. once is is done you have to wait for it to grow out. you can use a good quality conditioner and leave it on over night to tame your hair and make it feel better, but it is not better. Have you dyed your hair before? is this why it is damaged? if you have dyed your hair before you should contact clarol.com to change colors correctly.

Start out by getting a hair cut, (just a trim) you should cut off all the dead ends before anything, it will make it much healthier. After this, you should go for a hot wax treatment. It will help with the oils in your hair. You should also try deep conditioning your hair at least once a week. Don't dye it until you are absolutely ready to start, that way it can get healthy by itself. Also, get the extensions after you dye your hair so they can match the color better! Good luck!

Try a henna treatment. Henna colors the hair temporarily like a rinse, and also conditions it a lot. If you go to the beauty supply store and talk to the consultant, you may get a henna treatment that will make your hair red enough that the extensions will be all you need.

If you still need to dye it, the henna will help condition your hair and protect it.

I would suggest using a hair treatment at least weekly, perhaps even leaving on overnight. Loreal has a excellent one called 'intense repair'. I would also suggest after everytime you wash your hair, put in a leave in moisturiser, I use 'dfuse menz the endz' or sworkzkoph 'seal the ends' and also a heat protector spray after washing before using either a hairdryer or hair straightner. By may your hair should be in better condition. My hair was bleached to the max and felt great after doing this routine regulary.. good luck.

Before of going thru the hassle of dying your hair , couldn't you find it much easier to just get a wig for the part you will be playing in this film ?

Look in to getting some deep hair conditioning treatments. Also for the time being be very gentle on your hair. Blow/curl/straighten as lil as possible

Trim at least one inch per month and ask about a deep conditioner at your local salon.

Good luck with the film.
