I seem to have athletes foot just on top of my foot? Right above my toes and on the tops of my toes, not between my toes. Im fairly certain someone else gave me the athletes foot (my girlfriend) while we were in bed. Is this fairly normal to happen? What are the best ways to get rid of it? Right now ive been using the spray and washing/powdering my feet and shoes. Thanks guys

As a healthcare provider I can tell you it is possible to get it anywhere on your feet. It is a fungus that is easy to catch. It needs a warm, dark, moist place to grow. Tennis shoes are notorious for this to happen....they are enclosed and people usually sweat in them, so you can see how it works. You are doing what you should. Truthfully, the same fungus that causes athlete's foot is the one that causes jock itch. It just has a different name because its in a different place. This fungus can grow on skin anywhere....if it's moist, dark and warm. The same medicine works.

That's normal. Tinea is the name of the critter that causes body fungus, and depending on where it's located on the body, doctors just attach an important-soundning medical term to describe the body part ( example- tinea pedis is foot fungus).
About 75-80% of the world has tinea infestation.
A good anti fungal cream or spray ( miconazole should work) should take care of it. Keep feet and shoes clean and dry for best results. Let regular shoes air out often. If you have it on your scalp or in your nails, you may be put on anti-fungal pills.

Yes.

And I've heard of getting athletts foot fungus in the crotch and have it called jock itch.

Athletes foot fungus is just that, a fungus. It is usually found on the feet because people tend not to make sure their feet are totally dry when they put their shoes on, keeping their feet moist, dark, and warm, for hours at a time, which is what the tinea family of fungi thrive on.

The cheapest way to fight tinea infections is to make sure your feet completely dry out for hours at a time, i.e. not wearing your shoes when you get home, or other places, when permitted.

There are a variety of over-the-counter topical powders, ointments, and sprays that work faster. Just make sure you follow their directions when using them.

Yes, and behind the knees, and in the creases of the elbows. See a doctor for the best treatment. Depending on the severity, he may say to use OTC remedies, or give you a prescription. There is also the possibility that he will tell you it's something else entirely.

It is possible...especially on the toes.

I think the best thing to use is the neosporin athlete's foot cream and also foot powder in your shoes...it keeps out the moisture. so what you're doing is good.
