Yes! It will damage your hair a lot, plus it doesn't even last that long, you should just figure out ways to style your hair the way that it is.

Most relaxers damage and dry your hair, but there is one perm called the "Japanese Hair Straightening System" where they put the perm on then follow with moisturizers and deep conditioning and a ceramic flatironing..which locks the moisture deep into your hair. It's very costly but makes your hair pin straight and very silky, I got one before and I have very curly hair, I've never seen my hair so shiny and silky.
To give you an idea of the price range, mine took 7 hours for them to complete (the Japanese hair straightening) and 3 people were working on my head the whole time, and the cost was about $350. It's permanant however, so it lasts a long time until you cut your hair. Mine lasted about 2 years.

A word to describe straight perms is DAMAGING. Your hair feels tangled up and dry all the time and brushing can be a nightmare. I suggest that before you do something drastic on your hair go to a local barber and ask the hairdressers there, unless you have your own stylist. Unless you do the Japanese one which Miss Quizzical has kindly described for me, it doesn't even last long. Don't do it.

Yes, a straight perm damages your hair A LOT. I was going to get one, but my stylist about had a heart attack when I told her. She said that she had seen clients who got straight perms and had their hair breaking off! Now, granted, that's an extreme case, but a straight perm is very damaging, and also very expensive. From those I know who've had them, they're not worth it.

not that much. i did it in july & my hair is still pretty straight now. (it used to be really puffy & course) i think it depends on where u get it done. i suggest u go to a good salon, don't go for the really cheap ones b/c those probably won't turn out as good. also, after i got my hair straightened, i had a nourishment thing done too. i'm really glad i got a straight perm, b/c now i can wear my hair down & its much less of a hassel than it used to be, so i think u should try it

I just gave myself a straight perm and man does it suck. (or maybe I just did it wrong) I feel like my hair is course and always tangled, esp at the back of my neck- it's harder to curl the ends, and it's harder to brush through.
BUT- everyone's hair is different.
