My question..My tv is 720p my cable box is 1080i does that effect my picture?

I get a great picture but on my HD receiver. But above the digital clock it says 1080i is there a way to change it to 720p?

NO need to change it to 720p unless you believe that your set-top can do a better job scaling/deinterlacing than your TV.

Your set-top box may have an option to output in 720p (check its HD output setup menu), but don't worry if there is no such option, most TVs can handle 1080i quite nicely (if not better).
