If the installer is sending you to a lumber yard – find another installer. Satellite companies are aggressive at acquiring new customers. They will give away hundreds of dollars of equipment and programming to get you to sign a contract. It’s laughable some idiot wants you to buy $10 in wood.

You’re on the right track – Satellite has a better picture and costs less than cable.
If you are an NFL football fan and willing to spend $229 annually for DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket - the decision process is over. DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket offers up to 150 games unavailable elsewhere (unless it’s the home team available with a local network).

That wouldn’t influence me. The only football I watch is the Super bowl.

Currently Dish has a slightly better picture and offers more channels for less money.
DirecTV will eventually add more satellites for increased programming and picture quality. It’s a never ending battle between the two.

Dish Network was the logical choice for me.

There are enough variables that this is not a simple decision.

Good Luck

DirecTV has NFL Sunday Ticket Up to 13 or more football games every sunday ( The Sports Package) That's what makes DirecTV so special. You can watch NFL Sunday Ticket but it'll cost you about $200 a month. Dish Network you don't get that. The different with both satellite dish companies is the premium channels: DirecTV: 7 HBO, 3 Cinemax, 5 Showtime, 2 The Movie Channel, 4 Starz!, 8 Encore, 1 Flix, Dish Network: 9 HBO, 5 Cinemax, 6 Showtime, 2 The Movie Channel, 1 Flix, 1 Encore, 8 Starz!. I would choose Dish Network because you get more premium movie channels and I'm not really into sports. But the choice is up to you.
