tell him you need to talk to him, sit down, talk about how you guys are really good friends and such, and ask him out. before he starts talking, you should tell him that you dont want to ruin your friendship with him because that usually happens with good friends who ask each other out/go out and then break up. if he says yes, well youll be pretty happy. if no, then just say can we just pretend this never happned. hope this helps!
