I will be moving into a new apartment on April 1. The current tenants will still be living there up until I move in. Is it rude to start having my mail forwarded to my new apartment before I move in?

To put it in a nutshell, if you were the current tenant, would think it was obnoxious if you started receiving mail for the next tenant 1 or 2 weeks before you move out?

I think I would be more concerned about security in this situation. How can you be sure that your mail will be saved for you-----or safe? I wouldn't advise forwarding your mail until you are certain that you will be the one receiving it.

When you forward your mail, you put a date on there for when you want the mail to start being forwarded. So after that time your post office knows when to start forwarding.

When you forward your mail, you fill out the date you want it activated on. It will be exact. In general, unless they're relatives, it's not a good idea to get your mail sent to other people, and technically I don't even know if it's legal for them to receive it.

You need to wait. What if it is something important, like your tax refund, and they threw your mail out? I do think it is also rude to impose your mail...junk or otherwise on the other tenants.

I wouldn't have your mail forwarded there yet. Let people know of your new address but tell them when you're moving there so they don't send mail there early.

i would wait, it's kind of a hassle i guess, to shift through your mail and find someone elses.

it really depends on what the tenants would think it would be rude.
you could always ask if they don't mind.

personally, though, i wouldn't do that. have fun in your new place =)

Why don't you ask them for their permission before doing this? Personally, I wouldn't unless I knew them quite well.

In Canada you when you fill in a change of address request form at the post office, there is usually a box or slot that asks for the effective date. Perhaps you should check with your post office.
