I have had this sentive tender feeling go down the back side of my entire left arm, sometimes it will ache... but majority of the time it just feels like a sunburn. Its been in this state for about 5 days now....everywhere i read about shingles, it says you will get a breakout/rash/blisters around 3-5 days later.....i show no signs of a rash or redness,or swelling....Should i just take the medication for shingles or should i get a second opinion? Is it possible to not even have a "breakout"

when i had shingles, i had these red bumps on my back and they all blended together to make this really big red splotch that was not very comfortable- i think you should get a second opinion because you dont want to have to spend money on medication that you wont need to use
*good luck :)

Being a nurse I have seen lots of people with Shingles. This comes from having Chickenpox as a child. The virus stays dormant in your body, some break out when they get older, usually in mid 50's and older.
Each case of Shingles is different as to the severity of it, just like chickenpox.
Depends on the medication he gave you. Most of the time there is really nothing a doctor can do, but give you pain meds.
Its a virus, just like a cold and you have to wait it out kind of thing.
Everyone is different.

Yes, it IS possible to not have a breakout. It's not actually a skin disease, but a disease of the nervous system which can manifest into skin erruptions. Take the medication. Shingles can be very serious AND very painful. My sister suffers from them. Once you have them, you can continue to get them throughout your life. It stays in your body, although usually dormant...kind of like herpes. If you feel ANY discomfort in your eyes, go to the doctor IMMEDIATELY. My sister lost most of her vision because she waited a couple of days until the shingles go painful and they had traveled to her eyes. She had always had it in her hands up until that point. Be proactive as much as possible. Good luck.

it's like chicken pox for adults. a friend had it but she never really "broke out" i wouldn't worry about a 2nd opinion. shingles aren't hard to diagnose. he's probably right. take the meds. maybe you won't break out.

my friend has shingles. it only happens if you have had chicken pox before - the virus stays in your spine until it sometimes appears on your skin during stressful periods of ur life in the form of pimple-like things, scabby/blisters. if you don't have any of those signs...definitely get a second oppinion!!!!

It is rare for shingles to appear on the arm, so it is unlikely.
