Neutro is top notch and can be bought at Petcetra for the best price.

Royal Canin has also been voted the best on the market by vets, but you can only get it at a vet's office.

Not sure what's available in Canada...But some great good quality foods are Canidae, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Innova, Solid Gold, Blue Buffalo, Wellness, Timberwolf.

Stay away from such low quality cheap filler laced foods as Pedigree, Purina, Science Diet, IAMS/Eukanuba, Alpo, Beneful and other supermarket brands. Defiantely stay away from foods such as Ole Roy .This is one of the absolute worst foods out there. It is like feeding your dog gravy & fat soaked sawdust.

Dogs are carnivores, meat eaters they need a good quality meat based food not foods full of corn, wheat, soy, beet pulp. It takes up to 3 times as much of the grain based foods for a dog to receive proper nutrition then it does of a good quality meat based food.

Nutro is a good choice that is widely available in stores such as PetSmart and Petco. I don't know if they have Petco in Canada, but I know they have PetSmart. Anyway, it's a good choice because it's made without the fillers and by products that other foods have. Because it has more natural ingredients, it is easier to digest and gives your dog all the nutrients it needs. In fact, you'll be able to see the health of your dog improve because its coat will improve, and a better coat means less shedding. A better food also means less waste and smaller, firmer droppings. That's good news for anyone who hates having a baggy on their hand.

Foods such as Pedigree and WalMart's store brand will do the trick, but they're the cheap foods, and they can maintain that price by filling the foods with by products and preservatives. It's kind of like the difference between feeding your kid TV dinners every night or feeding them regular meals. The TV dinners will work fine, but the real thing is better.

Canidae Dog Food is a high quality food for Dogs. It can tend to be too rich for some pups, but it is one of the higher ranking among Veterinarians.

Here's a rule-of-thumb for you that I learned from my dog's breeder: When buying dog food, look at the ingredients on the label. It corn is one of the first three ingredients, DON'T buy it. Corn is a filler product and is not healthy for your dog.

Nutro and Natural Life are good brands. Good luck.

Your dog would probably eat bacon grease every meal if you let him, but we have five dogs and they all eat Avoderm which is one of the few dog foods on the market which do not contain euthanized pets! No kidding! It is great for their coat and easily digested (less stool) It is upper end in price (around $35.00 for 40#) but they eat less. We have five dogs ranging in age from 3 to 14 and they all thrive on it. If you do not choose this food, try to avoid foods with 'meal' in them. I also hear that Old Roy which is way cheaper is better than most other commercial brands. Good Luck!

Try the Merrick line of pet foods. They have dry and canned dog foods. It's a great quality food. You can buy direct from their site at www.merrickpetcare.com or from places such as waggintails.com - at the Merrick site, you can enter your zip code/location and find a retail store near you.

I would suggest Royal Canin, Nutro or Science Diet all are good brands and are available at most pet stores.

NUTRO has been my food of choice for ever. It's a great food for all my Goldens, from the pups to the adults. I use the large breed adult, and the large breed puppy.
