Yep!! Sorry to say that there are times when I have to face the fact that God sounds pretty evil (cruel and unfair) to me. That's usually when I am going through the Old Testament where I know not to go if I want any peace. I still believe in Him. He is whatever He IS. Not what I Decide He Should Be.

Evil is such a matter of perspective don't you think. Hummm- there are many things that God does now that I do not understand and perhaps as a worldly human I may sometimes question. Which as a Christian I must remind myself that God's plan is so much more that I could ever imagine. His thought process is on a level much more sophisticated than ours. So how do we know truly what evil is. Is it what the devil has tricked us into believing is evil. A child dying of cancer seems evil and is horrible but what if the future of that child was to grow up and be beaten and abused and raped everyday by a horrible spouse or to be kidnapped murdered and tortured to death by a serial killer.
Perhaps God spared them a much more horrible death and took them him early. How do we know. We don't.
As far as Jesus being a bad dude- not in his genetic makeup. He was made to be perfect. Sin doesn't necessarily make you a bad dude- by the way. We all sin. We are just humans. Are you saying if Jesus was just Human? If so he would have just been that and no-one would be following him today. He is the Messiah- through and through and that is why he has followers.
If we were created by satan I am pretty positive we would not have the free will to choose whether we worship him or not. You would not have that will either. We would not be sitting here typing on computers we would be tortured or torturing. It would not be the world we live in now. Thank GOD we have the free will to follow God.

I believe that Jesus is God's Son, but many religions portray God as evil and sadistic when they teach that he tortures imperfect humans forever in what they call hellfire.
That is why many turn away from God. They reason--How can a God of love, mercy and justice, do such a thing?
Truthfully, he doesn't. Satan the Devil employs that false doctrine to make God look like a cruel impersonal being, who uses the threat of torture to get people to worship him.
God does not torture his creation. In fact, he gave us the hope of the resurrection, in which the righteous and the unrighteous will be brought back to life here on earth.

Belief in God (the fact that He exists) is not dependent on His Character. Wanting to follow an evil God, if that were possible is another story.
Why would anyone want to do that? If God was evil, to follow Him would be foolish. There could be no expectation of benefit.

Then, being created in his image, I would also be bad and would not expect anything different.

Yes I would still believe in it, but I would neither worship him nor put trust in him.
