This is one of the more traditional ways.
1. Place the middle of the belt at your belly button.
2. Cross both ends behind your back ,without twisting them.
3. Pull the belt until snug, not overly tight.
4. Put the left end over the right, and under ,between your gi and the belt . It should now be the right side and pointing up.
5. Put the right end around the left belt end , and up through the loop.
6. Pull the belt ends till the knot is tight.

Thank you Yupchagee. The knot is called a square knot. like everybody told you here the best way is to ask your instructor to teach you how to do it. It will take you a while. Put in it into words is hard but here it goes. Fold the belt in half, place the folded half of the belt in you navel. wrapped it around your body without twisting it and keeping it snug. Adjust the belt so both sides are the same and that it all looks like one belt not crossed in the back. the end that comes from your left hand will pass thru the belt (make sure is all the way inside of the other parts of the belt) from the bottom up (over hand knot) know the piece that is on the right hand side of your body will go on top of the other piece and that tip will pass thru the loop that you just made from the bottom up (another over hand knot). and you got a square knot and a properly tied belt, we hope.....LOL

I am currently studying the Japanese martial art of Aikido and have been for near a decade(i am 15 years old)
to tie a belt simply take the half way point on your belly button and wrap the belt around and the rest is complicated to explain because it is memorized from tying too many belts

The best way is to make sure that the belt will wrap around your waist twice.
Find the center point of the belt and put it on with the ends behind your back. Then wrap the belt around to the front.
Then take the right end and slide it under the whole belt and knot with the left end.

1) This is a Martial Arts board. Didn't you just ASSUME that people here are in Martial Arts.
2) You wrap the belt around yourself twice, once for your body & the 2nd time for your spirit. You then tie these 2 circles together symbolizing the unity of your body & your spirit.

Fold it in half putting the ends together in order to find the middle of the belt.
Put the middle of the belt in front of your navel.
Wrap both ends all the way around you until they are in the front.
Tie it shut with a square knot.

Not all belts double wrap. We don't use double wrap belts at my studio. (I wish we did.)
Even when you do double wrap, not all studios tie their belts the same way.
In short: ask your instructor.

I'm not really sure, my Tai kwon do instructor gave me mine. He didn't tell me where he got it. I tried to put the tying instructions into words myself, but it kept on sounding more complicated than it really is.
