First of all, do you really need to be friends with someone to ask them where they got something? If you see someone with something cool, you simply say, "Hey, that's really cool...where did you get that?" She's not going to eat you or anything. Jeez! Secondly, a company called Oriental Trading CO. carries candy paper (which looks like real paper) and pens you write with that contain edible "ink." They come in different flavors i.e. blueberry, strawberry, lemon, etc. It may have been one of those.

You can purchase edible paper, often called 'rice paper' at many cake decorating stores or cooking supply stores. Markers with edible ink can be found in the same place.

I think you might try Far East(Asian) ethnic stores. Also the italians have some sort of candy that has something like edible paper.

Not only can you buy rice paper(edible) but you can get edible glitter, colored corn flour paper (also edible) and precut daisies and leaves- yum, you can also buy food color cartridges for your printer so you can make photo quality pictures for cakes!:

Rice paper is something you can commonly find at any Asian food market. Should you not have one, try an Asian food store online, maybe even Amazon might have that under their grocery section.
