I am tryin out for spring track, and i would like to know anything you need to know to be good at it. Do you have to be in shape? Do you have to run fast? What do the numbers mean?

Yes you have to be in shape and actually know what you are doing, that's why they have practices to get you in shape and teach you the event if you've never done it before.
The numbers on te track are number of the lanes usually 1-8(some tracks have more lanes in the sprint(100M) strech, usually 9). The numbers on paper are your assigned number so when you go through the finish line your time matches to your number matches to you, or in the field events your mark is matched to your number matched to you.

ok, well i've been doing track and cross country for a while now, and some of the things i do to condition and improve for meets are some of these:

*jog about a mile and a half each day-you don't have to beat any records or go fast at all as long as you're running...keep a steady pace

*write down your previous running records and each time you run, try to beat your score-set goals for yourself so you have something to aim for

*maintain a healthy diet...try to eat mostly carbs before races...it helps you not to get cramps and gives you energy

*don't drink gatorade until AFTER the race...that slows you down and drains your energy

*drink plenty of water all the time

...i hope i was able to help you, good luck!! <3 xox

this is a joke, right??

you're in competition with other people....YES, you have to be in shape!!!! YES, you have to run fast (unless you're running a long-distance track race and then you have to keep up the pace longer as opposed to simply being faster), and YES, the numbers in the lanes simply refer to WHAT LANE YOU'RE IN!!!!!
