Not at all... its simply an art that pretends to be one of the best in the world. There was a fictitious guy named Royce that won the UFC championships like 4 times in a row? and the majority of the world is obsessed with it... other than that.... it blows!

end sarcasm...

It doesn't really matter. The differences between the two only matter to the upper echelon of competitors and the Gracie's. But you are correct. Gracie jiu-jitsu is all about survival and then submitting like we saw in Metamoris with Ryron vs. Galvao. Brazilian jiu-jitsu is still Gracie jiu-jitsu but with less emphasis on self-defense and survival. For strictly mma, I would go with nogi grappling. This way you'll be used to using body parts like wrists and ankles for control rather than the fabric of the gi.

well i got knew for you brazilian jiu jitsu and gracie jiu jitsu are one of the same. the gracies have been around forever and at the time the deadliest martial art the world has ever seen. Now however you got fighters that a disproved that theory by cross-training in different martial arts just to stay ahead. Alone its a good self defense but it is going obsolete like everyother martial has.

No because it's sport based and tactics are to complicated and end up on the ground for long peroids of time. The last thing you want to do is be on the ground for long in a street fight, you don't know if your attacker has any buddies waiting to stomp on you.

In most causes with gracie or brazilian jiu jitsu the easiest way to get out of there locks is to simply bite and press your thumb into the persons eyes. Volence and sport are two completely different worlds apart.
