Get a huge bottle of Infusium leave-in conditioner, an empty spray bottle, and you have an instant detangler/conditioner. It's best to use when your hair is wet right after a shampoo. Squeeze out the excess water and towel dry first.

Infusium is excellent at restructurizing damaged hair without having to cut it off. I use it on myself and my daughter.

It sounds like your hair is really damaged, have you had lots of treatments such as colours, straightnings, perms etc, because this can cause that to happen, refrain from these. That being the case have conditioning treatments and use a leave in conditioner every day. don't brush your hair when it is wet, use a wide tooth comb and start at the ends of your hair, as you remove nots working downwords then start higher up and so on. also buy a brush with soft brissles.
