I've heard that the Vitamin D you get from the sun can also be absorbed through the skin in tanning beds. The vitamin can put you in a better mood.

Absolutely- Many people cannot suffer from this and use tanning beds as a solution- They don't call vitamin D the happy vitamin for nothing. Some people aren't as affected by the lack of it's production whereas some people, like myslef, am utterly miserable in the winter months when the sun hasn't been out. The beds work because vitamin d is vitamin d, no matter if it's real sunshine or not. The uv from the bed works pretty much the same way.

It is called Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD for short. And, no a tanning bed does not help the brain in this condition.

no do not try to use a tanning bed for seasonal affective disorder it is just going to ruin your skin when you get older and give you a tan that is all a tanning bed is good for. people with seasonal affective disorder use light boxes which give off a special type of light .

There are special lamps that you can get that really help. I live in Alaska and a large number of people here suffer from it because of our long periods of darkness. The lamps are quite reasonable too. I do not know if tanning beds do the same thing for you. The lamp would be cheaper and more convenient in the long run.

NO! The UV is dangerous for your eyes, if opened (they should ALWAYS be closed). There is a device you can wear on your head for a few hours a day that shines fluorescent light in your eyes, or get 4 x 40 watt fluoros, at a distance of 2 feet, or 60cm, for a few hours a day. See your doctor, or get a second opinion.

I agree w/previous answerer that it is not the right kind of light. I knew a girl with chronic, serious depression who was not helped by meds but had a special spectrum light board (it had like 4 lightbulbs in it) that she would sit in front of for days.. ((actually I don't think that helped her either ))... but i know the bulbs had to be special-ordered as they mimiced the natural light spectrum.

i am fairly sure it is not the right light . light of a certain spectrum can help for sure . i suggest you ask a medical doctor about the light . i do know that a person has to use the light source in a prescribed amount as it can cause troubles.

just get some of those commercail halongen lights a put them in your house and u have ur own artifical sun
