Olive oil is very emollient and moisturizing. You want to use a small amount on the ends of your hair. Use too much and it will be very difficult to remove. It is great for your skin too. I like to use it in the bath and leave some on my skin. You can use it on your hair couple times a month. A good moisturizer can do the same thing and be less messy. Halo has a great deep conditioner & so does TIGI.

My great-aunt used to brush olive oil into her hair every day, and when she died at the age of 90, she still had long, lustrous, nearly black hair and looked much younger than one would expect of a lady that age. She said it was an "old wife's thing" and I have no idea how many generations of women did the same thing as part of their routine.

There are skin and hair products available in most drug stores that include olive oil, but I think the oil from the grocery store will do the job.

Oil is the most basic and yet most versatile personal care product. It works as a make-up remover, as a body or face moisturizer, hair pre-shampoo, hair mask or hair polish.
Olive oil is particularly nourishing so it's best for very dry hair. If your hair is more normal then try jojoba oil instead. You can rub 4 or 5 drops of oil to your ends before every shampoo so that they'll be protected from the drying detergents in the shampoo. If your hair is dry, brittle, shineless and so on, then you should try to apply larger amount of oil to your lengths as you would for a hair mask (but avoid the roots unless your scalp is veeery dry) and let it sit for at least an hour before shampoing. After the shampoo, if you need to provide extra moisture and tame some fly-aways, then rub 2 drops of oil to your lengths or wherever you feel your hair lacks shine.
Did I mention that Naomi Campbell uses olive oil as a deep treatment on her hair?
