Is there a certain procedure in using one of these? This is not a good analogy but I had horse's and used Farnam Fly covers for there eyes, the only thing I did was pet horse ta' "un-nervy" them, let horse get a good smell of it and then proceeded (only used when horse's were in stalls). Might add that that the cat mask covers both eyes and muzzle. The reason for usin' one is that we have a siamese (spooky)...

Once the cat gets used to it, you shouldn't need any help or special devices to do this.

I sit in an over stuffed chair, put my cat down beside me and pet her for a while (the clippers are kept out of sight but within reach) when she's calm, I just take one paw at a time, gently squeeze the pad, "hook" the claw with the clipper and snip. takes all of 10 second per paw.

You need to get special clippers, they have a large round hole. You don't even need to see the nail, just place the clipper below the nail, lift gently until the nail snags, and clip.

Yes, my cat fought me on this for some time, but now she's very cooperative. After the clipping it's more petting and play time, so she's getting rewarded.

Don't clip too much, just take maybe a 1/4 inch off to blunt the nail.

I don't use a hood when I do my cat's nails - i get someone to help with holding the cat once it gets bored but that's about it.
