You can't get rid of them,,they're part of what Windows uses to start and run.

".....Svchost.exe is a generic host process name for services that run from dynamic-link libraries (DLLs).
MORE INFORMATION
The Svchost.exe file is located in the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder. At startup, Svchost.exe checks the services part of the registry to construct a list of services that it must load. Multiple instances of Svchost.exe can run at the same time. Each Svchost.exe session can contain a grouping of services. Therefore, separate services can run, depending on how and where Svchost.exe is started. This grouping of services permits better control and easier debugging. .........."

Its a Windows system file, do not remove it, Its the Service Host file. With that said, there are several Spyware and Adware programs out in the wild that are the same name. What you'll find is the bogus svchost file is in a directory other than Windows\system32. If you find a svchost file say in Program Files or Windows\ or Windows\System you can delete that one. Task Manager will show several processes with the same name, it just depends on what you have running at the time,

You shouldn't end this process, delete the file or take any other action unless you are completely certain it is malware. The genuine svchost.exe is a system file from Microsoft and is needed by the system.

This file may cause problems if you are running WinXP without SP2, as it can provide a "back-door" into your system (this was fixed in SP2).

If you don't already have it, install SP2, then perform a complete virus and spyware scan. Don't rely on websites that claim they can check svchost for you - many of them are fake and take advantage of the vulnerabilities.

Check out the Microsoft site for more info.

Good luck

Svchost.exe is a function of Windows XP and Windows 2000. the explanation is much too long to copy here, so click on the link and read it thoroughly.

And no, you can't delete or remove them without stopping some function of XP (if that's what you're running.)
