When gasoline burns it is a chemical reaction that takes fairly large molecules and transforms them into smaller molecules, principaly carbon dioxide and water. If the gasoline were a gas at the time of conversion, its volume would increase greatly because all gases at equal temperature and pressure occupy a space that is a constant for the number of molecules. This conversion is chemical to kenetic because the increased volume displaces the pistons in the engine to move the car.

The far more important route for the conversion is the chemical to heat to kinetic energy. The burning of the gasoline also releases heat that was stored in the potential energy of the chemical bonds in the octane or heptane of the gasoline. This heat production causes a rapid increase in volume (even greater than the molecular increase) that also displaces the cylanders.

To sumarize, the gasoline has Potential engery in its chemical bonds, which is released as Heat energy in combustion, which produces Kinetic energy in its expansion.

when the gasoline is burned (chemical process) the expanding gas pushes the cylinders in the engine downward changing chemical energy to mechanical. From the engine to the wheels is a mechanical process.

i dont think this i right but here goes...i think the gasoline is being changed to different form s of energy.such as thermal and sound. when the car moves the energy is then changed to mechanicle energy umm..yep
