An avi file can hold almost and video and audio format. If Windows Movie Maker doesn't work try Super.

Yes! Go to http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/ and download MediaCoder. It's a great converter that does practically anything, plus it's free and the developer is actively working on it, and he fixes bugs and improves it quite quickly!
