I use velcro rollers all the time. They are great for creating volume and body. Mostly, they don't really curl, they are more for straightening with a little curl. What I do & how I roller anyone's hair with them is start at the top with small sections, wrap the hair (starting at the bottom) around the roller and roll up to the top. Keep moving downward until all your hair has been rolled. Depending on how much hair is in the roller, I will use a bobbie pin to hold the roller more securely. Depending on how much time I have, I will just leave them in for a while or blow air on them with my blow dryer. Then remove them and using a brush/ fingers/comb to smooth out and straighten up any flyaways to look smooth and neat. Before you start, you want your hair to be mostly dry. Use a little spray to help keep it volumized and pretty.
I found a link that explains it well too. http://www.myjellybean.com/life/bodylooks234.html

You may want to use hair gel or liquid spray gel, before rolling your hair. When using the velcro rollers, put small amounts of hair on each roller. When removing the rollers, remove them carefully, so as not to disturb the curls. Use a soft bristle brush & brush your hair well, as that will set the curl, then style, using a comb, pick, or your fingers. (piecing) Using a little hair spray will help keep the style in place.
