No. It is a common misconception that red heelers should have a docked tail. It is a sign of a breeder who doesn't know the breed. Red heelers are also known as Australian Cattle dogs. As a herding dog, the tail is left intact to help with balance and turning. Of course there is nothing you can do now except educate people that the breed is not supposed to have a docked tail.

Australian Cattle Dogs who are often referred to as blue heelers or red heelers do not usually have their tails docked although I have seen some people who have ACD's that they actually work cattle with and they dock the tail to make it unlikely the dog will ever have his tail stepped on and broken by a cow or caught in a gate being slammed shut and broken.

some dogs tails are docked due to hunting and sporting requirements or perhaps there was problems with the tail and it had to be docked at the age it was done so. to prevent any further complications

Why in the world would you do that! They use thier tail to express thier happiness, and its got to hurt to get your tail cut off, isn't that inhumane, which is illegal!!!
