water damages the ability of a cat's fur to insulate the animal against cold, this has evolved over time to make cats hate water.

Like one of the others I've had a part Siamese who loved water and would happily swim in the bath. Most hate it or only like playing in it when young! There are some breeds that can and do swim! In the wild the only water a cat experiences is the rain and most seek shelter from it as quickly as we do! A shower to a cat must be like getting caught out in a monsoon! or Rivers and lakes which is a hostile environment to them unless it is shallow enough to hunt fish in! All animals groom and clean themselves and it's an instinct that can't be bred out! Nature has provided all they need to keep clean and if kept in good conditions an animal should not need to bathe! Bathing in water and shampoo can rob the coat of it's natural oils and there are ways to rid them of fleas without the use of water!

i had a part siamese that LOVED getting baths, i got him as an old kitty, so i don't know if he was raised with reg baths or what, but i know that not ALL cats hate water. it's not BAD to bathe them, as long as you don't use the wrong soap and they keep a healthy coat & skin.
i have a cat now that will tolerate a bath, but prefers to frolic unhindered in the shower. i also had a cat that would go swimming with me--for real! he would jump out into the river & swim with me!! the only coaxing i did was put him in the water up to his ankles the first time.
also, a breed called "turkish van" are known as swimming cats, and have fur that has adapted to water, helping keep them dry.

I don't know but I don't know of any cats of friends who get baths unless they are taken to a professional groomer. They just seem to natually hate getting wet for some reason

a kitty's saliva has special enzymes that release oils and stimulate the shine of their fur and if bathed the natural oils are taken away so kitty won't shine as well as it would when cleaned by licking hope I helped lol xx

As kittens its ok to give a bath maybe 2 times as long as there young, just put some warmish water on them and a bit of flea soap if you need to wash them. Adult cats its not good.

Mogs don't have natural oil in their fur like dogs so when the poor little muppets get wet they get really wet and they are not happy campers.

Their coats don't have as many waterproof oils as dogs coats do.
They prefer to groom themselves because they are more independent than dogs.
