Also, they want to keep her for two nights, the vet said if she comes one night before she will get use to her new environment and the heart rate is lower during surgery because of less stress.

Hey hun! don't worry about the puppy, she will be a'ok. this is a very common and simple procedure. it doesn't take very long but alot of vets will keep the puppies or kittens for a while afterwords (sometimes even overnight) they do that so that they can watch your "baby" and make sure that there are no problems with the surgery. she will not be in pain during the surgery because they will numb her and usually give an anesthesia so that she'll sleep thru it. afterwards she will be groggy and then sore for a few days but within a week or so she should be feeling herself. try to keep her from chewing at her stitches as that can cause swelling and bleeding. the best thing you can do is ask the vets any questions you might have, they will be happy to answer them and glad to see that your puppy has an owner that loves her! good luck to you and pups!

A spay is a fairly serious piece of abdominal surgery with all the risks that any such surgery poses. However, the fact that most vets do so many spays they are VERY very good at it and the risks are usually minimal. Most vets are done with the surgery in 30 minutes or so. Your puppy will be quite sore around her stitches and her belly after the surgery so don't let her go outside and play and run wild for a couple of weeks after the surgery and follow any post surgery recommendations your vet has

The operation is not dangerous at all. I have had many dogs, and trust me---it is safer to get them spayed than to not!

She will be in a little bit of pain, but only around her stomach area where her stiches are. You have no reason to be afraid. She will be fine! The chances of something going wrong with this simple operation is so small. It is a normal everyday thing that all veternarians have mastered!

The operation doesn't last too terribly long. If she gets it done in the morning, she will be ready by that evening, in most cases. I don't know how things go where you live, but where i am it normally takes a few hours and they send the dog home after she/he wakes up from the amnesia.

Good luck dealing with this---she will be fine!

it's an operation performed in the abdominal cavity which is far less dangerous than, say an operation in the chest cavity. if she has a heart murmur it can be quite dangerous. but assuming she's a healthy puppy and less than six months old, she should be just fine. depending how young she is and just her personality in general, she may be in pain or she might not even notice a difference. the vet should give a pain injection before surgery and offer pain meds to go home. but i advise an E-collar for her to wear for at least 10 days. make sure her nose doesn't reach past it, so she cant lick her incision and give herself an infection. the procedure itself lasts about 20 mins, depending on the skill of the doctor.

Very minimal risk and your pup will be at the vets for one day which covers the operation and recovery from the anaesthetic. She will be given pain killers by the vet before you pick her up and should be kept inside and quiet, no running around or jumping up and down off things, for a couple of days and then she will be fine. When you get her home make sure she has plenty of fresh water as the anaesthetic will make her thirsty and a bit of attention will help her cope better with the ordeal. Don't give her too much to eat until the next day. Just a couple of tidbits.

As with any surgery, there are some risks with the anesthesia. The benefit is far greater though. The surgery itself doesn't last long, and the pain she'll feel is considered minimal. She'll be back to herself within a few days.

You might have to buy a collar for her to keep her from chewing on or licking the stitches too much.

Spaying is the responsible thing for any pet owner. Good luck!

Spays are one of the most common surgeries that veterinarians do, so most of them have lots and lots of experience. The surgery is very safe and complications are very rare. The anesthesia that we use for pets these days is the same stuff that we use for people.

To be extra safe, agree to the pre operative bloodwork if your vet presents it as an option. This will allow to vet to look for signs that your puppy's kidneys and liver are functioning correctly. It will also check to make sure that your puppy doesn't have any bleeding problems, parasites or signs of infection.

Pets can be painful after their surgeries, but your vet should be able to prescribe medication to help her feel more comfortable. Young dogs seem to recover very quickly.

Most pets go in for surgery early in the morning and go home late in the afternoon if there are no complications.

I've had 3 spayed and all were fine, other than feeling sick for a few days after. I'd take the next day off work if you can, as their digestive system is usually upset by the surgery and they may throw up or need out more often or at different times. The key to quick healing is to keep them calm so their wound can heal, and usually they will not want to do much for 48 hrs after the surgery.

Any time a dog goes under anesthesia there are risks. If she is in good health she'll be fine.

The surgery itself is very simple and takes all of maybe 25 min. Most vets will keep the dog over night. She will probably be sent home with pain meds, and trust me, you'll want to use them. KEEP THE "CONE" on her (no matter how bad you feel about it)to avoid her pulling her stitches. Keep activity to a minimum until she has her stitches taken out! She'll do fine!

Our cat is now recovering from being spayed right now.

The surgery doesn't take too long and they will give her adequate pain medication so she won't feel a thing. It's a very routine procedure and I'm sure the vet doing it is quite skilled in performing it.

They might even let you see her after the surgery, but I woulnd't advise that because when we went to visit our kitty it was scary...I asked several times if it was normal for her to be all wobbly. I thought she was going to die but they reassured me that it was normal.

Today, she got to come home after being watched all night and she's just walking a little funny...other than that, she's birdwatching in the bedroom window, cooing at them like she always has.

I wouldn't worry. She's gonna be okay.
