Okay, I have a Boston terrier who is about 7 months. Well, about once every 30 min and in the middle of the night, She snorts loudly, kinda like she is choking. My mom and I don't know why. Please tell me.

Bostons are a breed of dog that are brachycephalic, meaning short-nosed. Their hard palate and soft palate, however, are the same length as a long-nosed breed. This means that the soft palate, being too long for the oral cavity, kind of flaps around the back of the larynx, blocking the epiglottis and covering the trachea opening occasionally. That is where the snorting comes in. They just have to work harder at breathing than long-nosed breeds, so if they relax (like when they sleep), the snorting gets worse. I believe some vets will do surgery to shorten the soft palate, but I'm not sure how successful it is, and anaesthesia in brachycephalic dogs can be more risky than in other breeds. Your vet may need to refer you to a specialty referral practice, which can cost big bucks. You might want to look into pet insurance and see if it will cover some of the costs. If the snorting isn't too bad, and she isn't suffering any ill effects from it, I'd say just keep an eye on her and if it gets worse, then look into your options. Hope this helps!

Assuming this is a brief episode then it is just a rather typical sort of snorting or sneezing noise made by a lot of dogs. There are such things as nasal mites that occasionally cause this so you could have her checked for those if you think this is a problem for her.

Being a prior owner of a Boston, they have smushed in noses so they snort alot of the time. (Pekingeses & Pugs do also) If she's sleeping when she snorts--she's just snoring--my two dogs both do it and neither one is a Boston.

I had one and he snorted all the time. I'm sure you've noticed she's pug nosed. She will snort from time to time, it's kind of like us when we have to clear our throats and when she sleeps she will snore so that will dry her mouth out also.

so you got a dog without knowing what symtoms it could develop due to its breed, this sounds like it may have a cold at the moment maybe even alllergic to something he/she eats.

check this site hopefully you are already in progress of looking at this: http://www.boston-terrier-world.com/indexa.htm

they have an elongated soft palate, which makes to harder for them to breathe.
