Well, the bible already has stars falling to earth in it and flesh biting locusts.
---How about, a plague of worms that eat their why out of ppl'e bodies if the disobey or whatever, that's pretty scary : )
---A threat that they will go crazy or turn into a vegetable, losing one's mind is another great terrifying thought.
