So I was given a kitten in Oct. We thought she was only about 8weeks old (due to her size) but the doctor said she was 4months old. Well it is pratically March now, which makes her approx. 8 to 9months old, and she still seems extremely small. I read that a 8week old kittens should weigh about 2lbs. Morgan (the kitten) weighed 2lbs when I took her to the vet in Dec. I haven't taken her to the vet recently but she probably weight only 4lbs still.

Is this healthly? Am I doing somerthing wrong? Or am I being a overly concerned parent?

Has she been checked or all different types of worms? Given all necessary kitten vaccines? Had blood cultures to check for infection? Does she act or look sickly at all, or does she play like a normal kitten? o.o

Barring all that, she might just need some fattening up. Get her some good quality food. None of this crappy Purina junk from the grocery store. Wellness is a great brand of food, and they have a kitten formula. Feed her a meal of wet and a meal of dry food a day, or whatever the directions say, and supplement it with some occasional treats of tuna fish or whatever kind of commercial treat she likes.

You may have a 'tiny cat' ... not all cats are the 'same size' and some are 'really tiny' while others are HUGE. If I were you, I'd 'keep an eye on her' because she's 'smaller than the average cat' and that could mean that a 'normal sized' cat could 'injure her' more easily ... but if you have a 'tiny cat' then you just have a 'whole lot of love' in a 'tiny body' ... so you should just LOVE HER as she is, and not 'worry about her size' any more.

I would definitely recommend you talk w/ your vet and cancel out any health risks. Parvo, feline leukemia etc.. I would think the vet should have checked and given shots for any of those, if they didn't, they need to.

Maybe she's on the wrong food, watch her eating habits. Check how hydrated she seems, is she actively playing or more lethargic? You really should discuss this with your vet.

Its fine for your kitten to be that small. Make sure your feeding him food that has nutrients for a kitten that age. My kitten is about 6 months old and hes 3 pounds. Feed your kitten Dad's kitten chow and maybe a can of soft food a week..

She could be a runt...they get fed the least while in the mom's uterus or something like that and they are born tiny. I had a calico that was a runt, she was with me for 16 year's. She died last year, I miss her still....But it seems like you are doing everything right!!! So if your vet tell's you not to worry, you shouldnt. My Spotty never weighed more than 5 pounds, {if that} her entire life and she was healthy!

as long as you feed her proper and provide her with love and attention then she should be okay
increase the amount of food or try a healthier brand I recently switched to (purna kitten food)its about 7.00 at walmart it is suppose to have more vitamins and stuff for cats
and also try feeding your kitten canfood like 9 lives or whiskas for a bedtime snack.this will help with weight gain and also kitten milk at petsmart or walmart and deworm your cat and flea treatment.

she may be a dwarf. if she eats well and plays and is otherwise healthy, i'd say you just have a very uniquely sized kitty!

i have two litter mates a little older than yours (m & f) the girl is only about 6-7lbs, she looks so tiny!! (i call her Ginger Bug cuz she's so tiny & delicate, and for her color) the male (Pockets) is about 10-12lbs. female cats tend to be smaller, also.

i doubt it, i had a 6 month old cat that was huge. he was feed the same as the others, big boned. i doubt yours has anything wrong with it. if your vet says all healthy then that should be good enough and just enjoy your lil bud

She might just be small, because she inherited genes of being small. But if you are still concerned, take to her to the vet and see what you can do.

maybe paranoid but do take it back to another vet perhaps to see for another opinion and check weight. feed kitten on milk for a week to see if weight diff, changes but vet should hopefully help in advice too.
