If you are 13 and have taken the course on babysitting, which a lot of communities offer, then I'd say okay. I think my personal preference would be 14 (that being on the younger side too). It would also depend on how old my babies were. I have a 6 year old and a 2 year old and I think someone around your age might do just fine. If they were babies, I think I'd have to get someone a little older.

A babysitting course is a must no matter what age if you are 18 years and younger. Good references is also needed.

For a full time babysitting job 8 - 9 hours a day or evening 5 - 6 days a week I think age 16 is a good age, as long as you meet the above regulations.

For a part time babysitting job once a week or so on mom's and dad's night out for a few hours, 14 is a good age, as long as you meet the above regulations.

I wouldn't consider leaving my child with a babysitter, unless they had these basic traits.

1) CPR/ First Aid training for infants and children and the ability to act promptly and appropriately in an emergency.

2) References from previous jobs, or if it was the first time ever, then references from non-relative adults regarding the maturity level of the babysitter.

3) A good rapport with my child. Possibly, I would screen the babysitter by bringing them for a "play date" then discretely observe the interaction between babysitter and child.

All in all, I am less concerned about age, as a 13 year old could easily fit the above requirements. My advice would be to attend the baby-sitting courses as you intend but also attend the Red Cross Infant and Child first aid/CPR.

I would go with age 18 or older. Probobly not a babysitter at all though unless they were family or very, very close friends. If you want to start babysitting make sure you get certified in CPR and First Aid because people find that very appealing.

I'd say 13. I'm 13, too, but I started baby-sitting my bros when I was around 11.

To advertise, post some flyers explaining your cause around the elementary schools in your neighborhood.

Or, ask your mom what you can do to advertise.

Good luck!

I'm a mom of a 2 YO and I wouldn't have anyone younger than 18 - but I'm overprotective ;)
