I seem to be on some sort of cycle, but things get me in s state far too easily from my view, think its down to stuff thats happened to me. Been on antidepressants varous times, but docs just prescribe drugs, never told them anything except circumstances. But I'm older now, thinking the roots of why are deeper, but scared to pursue cos I know the can of worms could consume me. Plus, think also I am just being weak and pathetic. Confident when happy, but a puddle of a wreck when the grey clouds hang over. Feel I should be stronger.

if you feel that you need to see a therapist then i think you should go. if you have insurance and your doc writes you a Rx or referral to go to one then i think your insurance will cover part of it if not all of it. i think after you start going and get everything off your chest youll start to feel better. therapist probably have many different exercises to help you get out of your cycles and face your problems so that you can feel happy and good about yourself all the time. youre not being stupid. there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to take care of yourself and wanting to be happy and confident.

First of all, you are not weak and pathetic, as you said there is a deep cause for your suffering so you are just reacting normally: with emotional pain.
I suggest you to go to therapy, if you feel the therapist doesnt make sense dont be discouraged and look for another one
I undesrtand what you say about the "can of worms," to give you some encouragement part of the recovery is to open that can of worms becasue part of the recovery is remembering the trauma, grieving the losses, getting angry at the ones who hurt you (or whatever did) etc, so recovering takes lots of courage cause it will hurt for a while,
but is just part of the process,
soon or later you will feel as if a heavy rock was lifted from your chest :) :) :)
Good luck!!!!! and best of my wishes

I good place to start is changing the way you talk to yourself!
Yes we all have mental conversations with ourselves and it can be very good for you!
A lot of self-talk is critical. It's as if our private mental world is occupied by a watchdog who is always anxious to point out our flaws.
I can see in the above paragraph that you can be very critical of yourself.
'things get me in s state far too easily from my view'
'I know the can of worms could consume me'
'I am just being weak and pathetic'
If you can change this negative self narrative to a positive one you will feel a lot better.
Do as much as you can on your own, but give your therapist a call if you run into painful things you can't change on your own.

My experience with "talk therapy" as well as medication is that sometimes with therapy is sometimes things have to get very bad for them to get better. I think I hear a little of that in your post.
I too did not want to broach the pain that was beneath the surface but through intensive weekly sessions for a number of months, have been better than I have ever been in my life. I don't regret that time today at all and it helped lift the clouds permanently.
Stay strong. . .

Meds, as you know, can dull your symptoms--but therapy--getting to the root of your problems--is what will cure you. It is not weak or pathetic to seek help--for that matter, it is courageous. Therapists are there to help you from being consumed by the can of worms.
Every city in every state has free and/or sliding scale mental health outpatient facilities/clinics. They are usually not listed where you can find them in the phone book--so call your local emergency room or police department to get the phone number of one in your area.

How can it be too expensive. And have you actually enquired or are you just assuming. And how important is your life to you? If you need therapy get it. You can try through your doctor first. If they won't help then you will have to fund it yourself but it will be worth it. You only have the one life - is it worth making a financial sacrifice for?

i used to feel like that i never went to see a therapist though bcos i couldnt afford to and in my culture its a taboo. So i got through it by reading about depression and anxiety and trying to find ways to deal with it. Ur not weak and pathetic you just need to find your way out and you will you just gotta give it time. Find things that you like to do or express ur emotions in a diary or something. Just dont hold it in bcos that makes it worse.
