Reasons for self trauma to ears
1. Ear infection (bacteria, yeast)
2. ear mites
3. insect bites to ear flap (pinna)
4. allergy (food or environmental)
Either way need to take to vet because scartching at ear could cause massive bruising of pinna known as an aural haematoma (blood fills up between the skin and cartlidge of ear) and this needs to be surgically repaired

The fact that several dogs start getting itchy at the same time strongly suggest a contagious cause.
Common contagious cause for itchy ears include mites (like fox mange) and fleas. There are obviously many other possibilities (ring worm, bacterial and yeast infections...) and a trip to the vet might prove necessary. However I would check out for fleas first.
Do you know how to perform a ''wet paper test''? If not, you will find a detailed explanation on a video talking about flea allergy at www.vetstoria.co.uk
Best of luck

Possibly ear mites (do they have brown/orange patches in their ears also rub them on carpets etc a bad infestation will also make them smell!) solution ear drops pref from the vet as these seem to work more quickly than those you buy at the pet shop -- these work as well but it does seem to take longer
DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO TRY TO CLEAR THEM BY POKING A COTTON BUD AROUND IN THE EAR YOU COULD DO GREAT DAMAGE
could also be fleas they are starting early this year!

could be a number of things, from ear mites, to an infection or a skin condition. the only way u will know for sure is to get them to the vets. sounds suspicious that if they've all got it though.... i'd be thinking that it's likely to be ear mites if they're all scratching their ears...... needs to be sorted as soon as possible. my mum had a spaniel a few years ago - she scratched her ear so much during one night that she ended up with a big blood blister on her ear. i think that was due to mites......

Ear mites probably are biting at your dog's ears. It could cause them to scratch. You could probably call the vet and ask them what kind of treatment they could help your dog. Hope your dog feels better!!

Possibly an allergy to something. Possibly a yeast infection in the ear. Possibly ear mites. Best to let a vet tell you.

Assuming this dog doesn't have fleas or ticks then it probably has ear mites. There are over the counter medications for ear mites that you can buy and try from Walmart or farm supply stores or you can go to your vet and pick up something there. One sure sign of ear mites is a dark brown or black gummy deposit in one or both ears, down in the canal.
