My wife is an American citizen and I am British. We married in November 2006 and filed our paperwork (I-130, I-485, I-864 & G-325A) to adjust my status to become a Permanent Resident in mid-November. I had my biometrics done in Cincinnati in December, we live in Kentucky, and around the same time we were told our case was being transferred to the California Service Centre. We haven't hears anything since. Does anyone know how long it takes to process the application and why it could be taking so long? Someone suggested it may be because we didn't file an I-765 EAD Petition or else it could be that they are waiting for a Visa Number, is this likely?

I am getting so frustrated so please only respond if you really know the answer.

Well you are very lucky!! Most people who get transferred to California do not have to do the adjustment of status interview, they get their green cards mailed to them. Have you signed up to view your status online with the USCIS? You may also want to go to the Adjustment of Status forum at www.visajourney.com where you will be able to see others who have the same issues and be sure to check out the timelines...I think you will find that you are on track, and it isn't that long a wait...USCIS is slooooow.

Good Luck, no need to worry :)

Well at times it takes so long and Califonia is one of the State that has the higest filling number, if I may ask Y did you not fill EAD along with your AOS? At least while waiting for GC you would have goting the oppurtunity to work. Well not too bad while not log on to the immigration web and get your case track so you can know when its touched or not and i pray is not that you have a little problem of Rfe which is request for evidence or FBI list. but take heart it will be done so soon. Stay blessed

If you married a US citizen you do not have to wait for a visa number. More than likely it is the typical US government paperwork delays. The easiest thing to do is go to the USCIS website and enter your case number. That will show the status of the application.

Things are not fast. I also married and filed in Nov. I got my bio in Dec. and I am waiting patiently ( don't know for how long) for my interview. I can wait for one year (Nov 2007) and then start to worry.
