immigrant flags???

Question

so i posted this the other day and i guess people had to report it,, even though i didnt say anything wrong,,,they just didnt want to hear the truth.. so anyway,, why is it ok for americans to fly the irish flag and celebrate heritage or even fly the conferderate flag,, but it is not ok for mexicans to fly the mexican flag.... and dont not answer saying because there are illegal mexicans here thats not what im asking so keep the comments on illegal immigration away,,,,, what is wrong with LEGAL mexicans flying the mexican flag and celebrating where they come from,, we do it y cant they? as long as they are not knocking the american flag then fine by me, and dont respond saying they are..... legal mexicans who have no harsh feeling towards the us,, what is wrong with them still haing a mexican flag outside their house???

I see absolutely NOTHING wrong with this. When stationed overseas we ALWAYS flew an American flag as a symbol of our love of our HOME. We always got a quiet nod or a smile. I don't think it EVEN entered into any of our neighbors minds to question WHY we flew it. I feel we should give the same respect to any immigrant who is very proud of their heritage.......it is simply a beautiful monument to where they and their ancestors came from.

well i can understand where you are coming from it is just a flag, but the reason people our making a big deal about there flag is how they us theres. they make it very well known and they do it to start stuff. they are the ones that wanted to change stuff and have knocked our flag. a Irish flag to celebrate there heritage there holiday and every time i have seen another countries flag the American flag was there too. and as for the confederate flag that is a American flag in case you didn't know that. i don't care if it was way back when it still was a flag of American. just because we wasn't a hole until after the civil war still American flag and is a flag of some southern states in some for or another.

I personally have no problem with it.

I do have a problem when I see Mexican flags flown higher than the American flag. Or when they fly the Mexican flag correctly and the American flag upside down. When Americans see such, they are just as insulted and it sure does not instill a liking for the one that wants to have such a flag to represent who they are and "celebrating" such. It also doesn't make others look with any sort of favor on those from such a race that does such.

Not written to offend - just saying it like anyone would no matter what the country and such was being done there.

I see nothing wrong with flying another country's flag on certain occasions, i.e. St. Patrick's Day. If you fly the Irish flag on any other day (and there are two flags) my father would call you a "professional Irishman." But even then, you have to follow protocol. Our flag always on top - on the correct side, etc. The Irish were VERY helpful to us in the Revolution, French and Indian, 1812 and Civil Wars. They had a lot of experience of centuries of tyrannical British rule.
I'm perplexed by the German flag issue. If it's the true national flag - no problem - BIG problem if it's a Swastika or the knock-off that represented East Germany.
In any event - check your flag "rules." They're very specific.
And if persons of Mexican descent want to fly the Mexican flag from time to time, next to the American flag, I don't see a problem with THAT either.
I live on the Canadian border and many people fly both - we even sing their National Anthem at our Hockey Games. It's a matter of respect - not defiance.

HI again, remember me? Anyway, this time I agree with you. I think when it comes to flying flags it depends where in the US you are. Sometimes confederate flags are not well received. I live in CO and I see the Mexican flag flying in some areas and it seems to be tolerated. I don't see why anyone on there personal property should not be allowed to fly what ever flag they want.

I agree! I believe that there is nothing wrong with waving the Mexican flag here in America. I'm 1/2 Mexican and white. I believe if I want to wave the Mexican and American flag separate/ or together I have the right to do so . Besides this is America and America is all about different races and cultural. Live with it people don't get mad about it....Besides the flags look sooo pretty together! lol

Its all about motive. My neighbor next door had a Mexican flag above his garage. He told me someone stole it. But i didnt care.
Flying a flag at home or at an ethnic event or something... I see no problem with that.

Seeing people at a demonstration with a mexican flag above an upside down american flag well that I have a problem with.

You want to be a part of society in the USA, then I would think ones primary loyalty would be to the USA, or at least not be subversive.

The only time i've actually heard people complaining about the mexican flag is during the protests, and thats because they should've been flying the American flag...dee dee dee!!!
So fly your flag and ignore the people who don't like it, you will feel much better!

I don't know what the flag of Ireland looks like. And I'm part Irish. I don't care if people pick a DAY to be proud of their ethnic background and if they fly their flag and do whatever for a DAY. A flag is a symbol of where your political beliefs not a "cultural" thing. I'm also German and people would be pretty offended if I flew that flag. As a matter of fact...people here did fly one and they were charged with a race crime. People are "offended" by our own confederate flag. So like it or not....foreign flags are NOT a welcome sight in this country when it goes beyond a pizza box or flown beyond an ethnic pride day. I dare you to find Irish Americans flying an Irish flag outside their home year round in place of the American Flag. You don't drive through the Polish areas of town and find them flying the Polish flag in place of the American Flag. You don't drive through a Russian community and see a Russian flag flying in place of the US Flag. The only time I see any flags flying from another country is at an ethnic food festival....decorations in a restaurant....etc. It is totally disrespectful to American citizens to fly a foreign flag in place of the American Flag. I would never be so disrespectful as to fly my flag in another country.

Pick A DAY to celebrate your heritage. Fly it and then hang it on your wall the rest of the time. If your more proud of Mexico or any other country to where you can't fly our flag....then you need to go where your allegiance les. It is an extreemly important thing to American Citizens and a sign of total disrespect to fly a foreign flag.

If you MUST fly it then follow proper protocol. The foriegn flag is flown lower than the American Flag but BOTH are out.

I can't comment on an irsh flag, but I can comment on the rebel flag! Those rebels (american citizens) gave their lives fighting for this country in what they felt was right!! Slaves were only a small part of the conflict!! Your flag is from another country all together, thats why it gets people upset!

I am a British citizen living in the US because my wife is American. When we eventually buy our own house I plan to fly a Stars and Stripes and a Union flag from our property. I love my country and I love my wife's country. I wouldn't be here if I didn't.

The United States was built on successive waves of immigration. And as each generation aclimatized and slowly adopted to the American way of life they gradually saw their own forefathers immigration as being more noble and worthy than those entering the United States in their lifetime. They tried to curb immigration through succesive laws such as the Emergency Quota Act (1921) and the National Origins Formula (1929) which were designed to keep out the people they feared and exclude them from the very things their forefathers gained when they emigrated. The same debate goes on nowadays only most people have their fears of un-American behaviour heightened because of intense media coverage which gives rise to such extreme xenophobia. In the early nineteenth century America saw huge numbers of Italians immigrating to the US. Over a hundred years later do you see huge numbers of Italian speaking Americans trying to usurp American culture in favour of their European heritage? No, you don't. They celebrate their heritage and hail their liberties to do so because of the freedoms given to them through the Constitution but they are as American as the next person. Given another hundred years the descendants of today's immigrant will be as American as you and those whose forefathers came here a hundred, two hundred, three hundred years ago.

So while I live in America I will adopt your ways, I will spell honour without the 'u', I will watch baseball and celebrate Thanksgiving but I will also seek to educate my neighbours on what life is like in England. I will tell them that football (soccer) is an exciting sport, hot tea with milk and sugar is refreshing drink and London is a great city to visit on vacation. I will raise my children to be God fearing, hard working, law abiding citizens aware of their mixed heritage and to be respectful and helpful toward their fellow human beings and not to judge others. So I will fly my Union flag with pride because Britain is my past and made me who I am today while America is my future and the person I will be tomorrow.

Now as someone engaging the Immigration process legally I won't tell you of what I think of the illegals who are like thieves in the night and snakes at our heels...
