This is always trouble in marriages or partnerships. All your life you have been looked after and nurtured by your mother, It doesnt matter if you are fem or guy, your mother doesnt like you going away from the nest and making a life on your own, plz bear with me because this applies to mother in laws as well. In your mother in law's eye's you are not good enough to look after your wife /husband. When my children grew up I said to them you have your own family now and make it good but if you ever need me I am here for you. Yes they do come and ask advice and I help if I can, but I think I am respected more for just leaving them alone and let them live their own lives.

This question and all of the responses just break my heart! I absolutely adore my mother-in-law. Of course sometimes she gives me advice that I know I won't be taking, but so does my mother. If anything I think maybe you're being a little judgemental, not her. Bottom line is, if she didn't care she wouldn't speak up. See her offerings as a kind gesture, letting you know that she loves you like one of her own...therefore she'll nag you as if you're her own! Hang in there, and just take it with a grain of salt, think about how you'd react if was coming out of your mother's mouth..would you be mad then?

HI, I THINK THAT SHE JUST WANTS TO HELP YOU. I AM GOING TO BE A MOTHER IN LAW SOON. I FEEL THE NEED TO HELP. BUT I KNOW WHEN TO BE QUIT. SO MAY BE YOU COULD TALK TO YOUR MOTHER IN LAW. TELL HER THAT YOUR KNOW THE BEST FOR YOUR FAMILY TO. IF YOU WANT YOU CAN TELL HER THAT SHE CAN PUT A LITTLE IN PUT SOME TIMES BUT THAT ALL.

I have no idea... but your question made me remember this priest... he once said during mass... the best place to get a wife is in foster homes... you will not have a mother in law...
