Take a ride on the St. Charles streetcar and view the mansions on St. Charles Avenue. Walk down on the riverfront and look at the Mississippi River. Take a stroll around Jackson Square. They usually have free music and also St. Louis Cathedral is right there. Have coffee and beignets at Cafe du Monde. Thats cheap and in the same area. While there stroll on down the street and browse the wares offered in the French Market and the Flea Market. Theres a lot to do in New Orleans. You will not be bored.

Decatur Street in the French Quarter is a great spot for inexpensive daytime fun. There are always plenty people around to talk to, or just to watch!
There's usually some street performers in front of Jackson Square. The Cafe' du Monde is only a few feet away.
If you get hungry for lunch and want something that's good as well as cheap, try Cafe Maspero, at 601 Decatur.
The Central Grocery, at 923 Decatur, is the home of the original muffuletta sandwich. Grab one of those and a Barq's root beer and head out to the banks of the Mississippi River, which is close by, for a lunch like you've never had before.
Enjoy your trip!

There are a lot of things to see in New Orleans. You can tour the French Quarter. There is also Jackson Brewery--walking through there and shopping or looking, will take up some time too. You can check out www.nola.com and you will find lots of things there too. There are also cemetary tours, if that is your kind of thing, along with The Market, which has lots and lots of things for sale, to look at, see. Depending on how old you are, there are casinos also. But there are a lot of things to do in New Orleans! Cafe Du mond, Pat O'briens, etc...Hope this helps. Too bad you weren't there for Mardi Gras! Have a great time! Wish I were going too! (It's my home state).
