Better to be safe than sorry - take him straight to the vet. My pup ate a sock once and when we took him to the vet, we discovered that if we had waited any longer, he could have died from the blockage in his system. It's not just breathing, it's his stomach and intestines, etc that could be affected. And this was despite the fact that he had been eating, playing, toileting and acting perfectly normal. Better to be an overprotective owner than have to watch as the worst occurs.

If your puppy starts acting weird, like not eating or having a hard time breathing, I would take him or her to the vet. But sometimes it doesn't do anything to hurt the puppy; when my last dog was a pup, he ate a few balloons, but he was fine once we knew it was out of his system.

C S is correct that balloons can cause blockages. As long as your dog continues eating normally and is active there is no cause for concern. I wanted to add to please be very careful with balloons around children and pets. If a balloon breaks, gather ALL the pieces and dispose of them properly as these pose a serious choking hazard.

If you think that he will be fine, think again. you might want to bring him to your local vet doctor. The balloon that he has in him might cut off his/her breathing pattern. this just may be ill for your pet puppy. but on the other hand, keep an eye out. Watch the poop, and if you see the balloon then put it in a zip lock bag and still return to your local vet.

Just keep watching to make sure it comes out. Balloons are notorious for causing blockages. If you see any signs of illness, vomiting/diarrhea, not wanting to eat, get to the vet immediately.

Keep watching for it. If it doesnt come out in like a week and half I would call the vet and talk over the phone and go from there.

Keep watching his poo for the balloon, it could become an obstruction. I would probably go ahead and call my vet and tell him what had happened to see if he thinks it is serious.

When he farts does it inflate outside? I saw a birthday card that showed the very same thing - dog eats balloon, farts, then it inflates outside of its butt. Very funny.
