If you do not know the answer to your own question the yes it is a bad idea.

When join any branch of the Military you need to make sure it is something you want to do.

This depends on what career field you plan to be in. They are not all the same, do not listen to recruiter hype, talk with people in the job you want to do and see exactly what you need to do when you join to get that job.

My family is military, my father did 30 yrs and my husband is over 15 yrs in the Air Force. My personal opinon is the Air Force treats it's personel better then the other branches. Tend to have much shorter deployments to any place they go. It has been a good life for us, but it isn't for everyone, and it has gotten worse over the years for people looking to stay for the full 20 or more.

For an enlistment of 4 yrs it comes with lots of good benifits. You will learn to take care of yourself, work as a team, and be responsible and held accountable for all kinds of stuff. You can sign up for the GI bill for collage, but while you are in active duty all classes, Cleps and Dante tests are free. You will only have to pay for your books. It can be a wonderful way for someone to get a good collage education if they work for it almost free. You will have OK medical and dental while you are in, use to be much better.

Do talk with people in the branch of military and job type that you are interested in. There are some out there that you don't want to go near with a 10 foot pole because they are so undermaned that you will be worked on 12 hours shifts almost your whole time in, and they deploy all the time. Military police is one of the careers that get very over worked.

Good luck on your choice, it takes a special kind of person to thrive in the military today.

Well I think the minimum enlistment is 3 years but yes it would give youa break from all this nonsense in the media and give you nothing but god and country for a couple of years, some life skills, some discipline, some respect, and some pride for yourself and your country as well as your fellow countrymen.

Yes. My grandson just joined the Army reserves. He said it is nothing at all like you see in the movies. He has a woman sargent in charge of his training (I forget what they are called) and he hates her. He is really not used to such discipline and doing exactly as he is told whether it is right or wrong. Even if he is accused of something and everyone in his platoon knows someone else did it. He still has to take the blame. If anyone in his platoon does something wrong, everyone has to pay.

First and foremost why do you want to go into the army?

If it is to represent your country, then you have my blessings.

If you just want to join, so that you can complain, then you have Scottyurb as your savior.
