If you get asked on a second date then u know the date was successful and the other person had a good time too and wants to see you more to get to know the real you.

A successful date is one where you don't have to ask yourself is it a successful date. You don't think about that. You're not worried about it, things just flow naturally. If either of you aren't watching the time or are trying to end it for some reason then I'd say it's going pretty good.

When you meet your date at the door or designated spot and they are dressed appropriately and look good. Then the activity is mutually enjoyable, but didn't take away from the shared company. At the end of the date if all went well for both parties and he was respectful then it's a good date. If it was physical intimacy involved, I expect a call the next day, so that I know what was shared wasn't taken for granted. Actually a follow up call the next day is desired so that I know my company was appreciated.

a good date is any date where you have not only decided you want a second date but have laid down the groundwork and timing to actually *have* one before the first one is over.

Everything else in between is just to determine if you want a second date. Regardless of how much or how little "play" you got...heh
