For side dishes: any type of green salad or corn bread would be good. Some people like flour tortillas or sourdough bread with their chili. Others like to put chili in a baked potato - so you could bring a batch of baked potatoes.
For desserts: fruit salad, fruit pie, lemon meringue pie or pudding (banana, vanilla or chocolate).
My favorite pie recipe: Summer Berry Pie
3/4 cup sugar
3 Tbsp. cornstarch
1-1/2 cups water
1 pkg. (4-serving size) Jello Brand Gelatin, any red flavor
1 cup each blueberries, raspberries and sliced strawberries
1 HONEY MAID Graham Pie Crust (6 oz.)
2 cups thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping
Preparation
MIX sugar and cornstarch in medium saucepan. Gradually add water, stirring until well blended. Cook on medium heat until mixture comes to boil, stirring constantly; boil 1 minute. Remove from heat. Add gelatin; stir until completely dissolved. Cool to room temperature.
PLACE berries evenly in crust. Top with gelatin mixture.
REFRIGERATE 3 hours or until firm. Top with whipped topping. Store leftover pie in refrigerator.

The easiest dish would be a guacamole.
Take two advocavado pears
I chilli pepper or jalapino, seeded
Very finely chopped spring onion
I chopped seeded tomatoe
Chopped cilantro or flat leaf parsley
Table spoon of sour cream or cream cheese, salt pepper to taste. Mix well.
We tried this on Sunday and it was fantastic with tortilla chips!
If you are confident your guest will enjoy it you can add crushed garlic to this dish

CHEDDAR CHEESE BISCUITS
2 cups bisquick baking mix
2/3 cup milk
1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Heat oven to 450. Mix baking mix, milk, & cheese until a soft dough forms; beat vigorously for 30 seconds. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto an ungreased cooking sheet. Bake 8 - 10 minutes or until golden brown.
Mix butter & garlic powder. Brush garlic mixture over warm biscuits before removing from cookie sheet. Serve warm. Makes 12.
CHEESE AND POTATO PEROGIE
Potato and Cheese Filling:
1 tablespoon grated onions
2 tablespoons butter
2 cups cold mashed potatoes
1 cup cottage cheese (or more)
salt and pepper
Perogie:
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
2 teaspoons oil
3/4 cup warm water
Potato and Cheese Filling:
Cook the onion in butter until tender. Combine it with potatoes and cheese. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Vary the proportions and ingredients in this recipe to suit your taste.
Mix the flour with the salt in a deep bowl. Add the egg, oil and water to make a medium soft dough. Knead on a floured board until the dough is smooth.
Caution: Too much kneading will toughen the dough.
Divide the dough into 2 parts. Cover and let stand for at least 10 minutes.
Prepare the filling. The filling should be thick enough to hold its shape.
Roll the dough quite thin on a floured board. Cut rounds with a large biscuit cutter, or as most old-world grandmothers did, with the open end of a glass.
Put the round in the palm of your hand. Place a spoonful of filling in it, fold over to form a half circle and press the edges together with the fingers. The edges should be free of filling. Be sure the edges are sealed well to prevent the filling from running out.
Place the pierogi on a floured board or tea towel and then cover with another tea towel to prevent them from drying out.
COOKING: Drop a few pierogies into a large quantity of rapidly boiling salted water.
Do not attempt to cook too many at a time.
Stir VERY gently with a wooden spoon to separate them and to prevent them from sticking to the bottom of the pot. Continue boiling for 3-4 minutes.
The cooling period will depend upon the size you made it, the thickness of the dough and the filling.
Pierogies will be ready when they are puffed.
Remove them with a perforated spoon or skimmer to a colander and drain thoroughly.
Place in a deep dish, sprinkle generously with melted butter to prevent them from sticking. Cover and keep them hot until all are cooked. Serve in a large dish without piling or crowding them. Top with melted butter- chopped crisp bacon and/or chopped onions lightly browned in butter.

MADELINE'S "COMFORT" CORN BREAD
2 c. yellow cornmeal
2 c. flour
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. soda
2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs
1/4 lb. butter (or butter)
Melt butter in 9x12 inch baking pan. Set aside. In large bowl place cornmeal, flour, salt, baking powder and sugar. Add the eggs (slightly beaten) to the dry ingredients and use hands to mix in until you get a crumbly texture. Add buttermilk and soda. Stir well. Add melted butter. Stir until mixed. Bake 400 degrees, 20-25 minutes. This is very moist and "custardty".
