First of sorry about my spelling...

To some people war is one way that some people feel that they can help their country. War makes people stronger. War teaches people some things. War created first person shooters. Religeon started some wars. When people belive they failed their buisness life they go and join the miltary so they have something to do in life. Some people who feel depresed go to war and understand if they die they died doing something they feel right. War makes some people smarter. War created weapons that later on were used in science. So... Is war really that bad?

Obviously you have never been in a combat situation, otherwise you wouldn't romanticize the ideaology of war. It is true, that good things have, in fact, come out of war, such as freedom and world security. Religion has started most of the wars in our history, and most of the people in the military want nothing to do with war, but it is our duty to go where needed. Wars that we have fought have given us new technology, but on the streets of iraq and afghanistan, war is an entirely different situation. I have been involved in several combat situations in iraq, and can tell you that war is not glorious, war is not something i ever want to experience again, and i do not want to die in a battle, so to answer the basis of your question, yes, war is really that bad.

War is sometimes neccesary.
War isn't always a bad thing.
There is glory in battle that some people find, the glory and honor of victory and dying for one's country if need be.

Some people say war is a failure to negotiate, but sometimes it is inevitable. Look at World War II. The Allies fought an honorable. Even though Europe didn't see Hitler as a threat until it was too late, and even though the USA didn't enter until 1941, the Allies came together and defeated the Axis powers.

We gave it our all, sacrificed millions to stop Nazism and the Holocaust.

Sometimes wars must be fought. Pragmatically, World War II got the USA out of the Great Depression.

Yes, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were unfortunate, but Japan wouldn't surrender, so we had to drop the bombs.

War is good sometimes.

The lessons learned from war (not stuff like video games) can be good, however I'd say war breaks more people down then it makes stronger. Also being in the military in a time of peace can be just as much of a character builder for a person. However the act of war it self is definitely not good, even if it is fueled by religion (the bringer of many positive things), or allows people to die in an honorable way, think of how many people become depressed as a result of war. War really is bad; but it's often necessary and is natural, war is as old as man. However war is even worse if nothing is learned from it.

War is not good, no matter how you define it! Innocent people die in wars. Countries are devastated. When we go into battle our young are being cheated out of life. Some of the people who fight in wars are permanently disabled. Some have Post Traumatic Stress, that gone untreated ruins their lives. Many of the troops in the 2nd WW, Korea & Vietnam were never treated for PTS & suffered greatly, some killed themselves. War is never good unless you are defending yourself from an aggressor, then you have no choice, but that doesn't make it any better, it's still war!
Most of the things that you felt had helped science would have been found without war!

It's like that whole ying yang thing.. war is good and bad - both on enurmous scales. You listed the good things. But you also have to remember that to accompany them comes a crap load of death and destruction. You may not care about this itself, but try imagining your own parents or loved ones getting killed. It's tough, and that's what happens to the victims of war. Whereas others grow from it.

Look at Iraq. Some people im sure have gained from this, especially the allies who have grown stronger friendships and greater economical prospeity in those terms. But Iraq itself is like ruined lol

Here is your answer:

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse.

"The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

- John Stuart Mill

Yes war is that bad and that's exactly the reason you don't want to get into a war but some radicals like the Al-Qaeda and Taliban don't care about their people and start wars anyway.

Your question is truly dumbfounding. War is the worst thing on earth. War is violence and a lack of proper vocabulary. War is hell on earth. War is death and destruction. Just because some fat politician decides that his business interests must be respected, there is no reason innocent people should suffer. I would never fight in a war. NEVER will i kill a human being for nationalistic reasons.

It wasnt the worst conflict in terms of casualties even yet it became virtually a conflict of imperialism that's tied to money and not the rest fairly. there is extra to it than that however the justifications for conflict weren't purely from all beligerents.

As with anything in life usually there is 2 sides to every story. And no matter how bad or evil somethings are there are positive things that come out of these things.

Some only understand respect out of force or show of force.
