Are you sure you have the flu? Maybe you have strep throat. If it's strep throat, antibiotics will get you much better in a couple days.

One of the first symptoms of flu, is a cough and you didn't mention a cough that's why I was thinking strep throat.

If it's really the flu:
Four antiviral medications (amantadine, rimantadine, zanamavir and oseltamivir*) have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment of influenza. However, you will need to begin taking the medication within 2 days after becoming sick. When used in this manner, these medications can reduce influenza symptoms and may shorten the time you are sick by 1 or 2 days. They also may make you less contagious. All of these medications must be prescribed by a doctor and taken for 3-5 consecutive days (5 days for oseltamivir and zanamivir). The 4 antiviral medications are effective only against influenza viruses. They will not help symptoms associated with the common cold or many other influenza-like illnesses caused by viruses that circulate in the winter.

If it's just a cold, chicken noodle soup, lots of fluids and maybe zinc lozenges.

here is a recipe ..I have not tried it

Garlic and Herb Pasta
(This serves 2 really hungry people but can be spread out to 4 people if you serve it with a salad or something.)
 24 cloves of garlic, peeled (This is a really boring job but it's so very worth it.)
 2 T olive oil
 1 1/2 cup veggie broth or water
 a couple of Roma tomatoes and a little onion, maybe some red pepper
 ~2 T dried basil
 tarragon, oregano, pepper to taste (the more the better, usually 2 tsp tarragon is perfect)
 Whatever pasta floats your boat (I like penne or mostaciolli)

Sautee the garlic cloves (still whole) in the olive oil for 3 minutes, stirring frequently and being VERY careful not to burn them. If you do, throw em out and start over b/c burned garlic in this is REALLY gross. Add 1/2 c of the broth and turn the heat to low and let simmer for awhile, about 15 minutes or until the broth has evaporated mostly. [You should start the water for the pasta now.]
By this point, the garlic should be soft enough to crush with the back of a wooden spoon. Crush about 3/4 of them like this. Add the rest of the broth, the sliced up tomatoes, the chopped up onion, and the herbs.
I've actually never measured out the herbs I put in, so you should taste the broth and see how you like it. Wait a couple minutes for the tomatoes to shrivel up, add more pepper, and turn the heat off. Try not to drool into the broth. :)

In the first place, get a flu shot every year to prevent this from happening again. Stay in bed all 3 days, use throat lozenges, take allergy/cold medicine for nose and chest symptoms. Take aspirin for fever and aches. Sleep as much as possible. Flu just takes time to get over.

Take a couple of lemons and squeeze them into a cup before bed. Heat up in microwave until not quite hot. Do not add honey! Drink over about twenty minutes before bed. If that doesn't work the next day chop up about twenty garlic cloves, finely. Eat an organic salad with organic dressing, add organic cayenne powder.(about 100,000 scoville units((very hot))) Eat a lite dinner with no red meat. Between bites of food eat a forkfull of garlic. Do the lemon thing again before bed. You should find that you don't have any sore throat the next morning.

If you go to the doctor, they will prescribe Tamiflu. It works well, but only within 48 hours of experiencing symptoms.

If you really think it's the flu, then go to your doctor - there are meds they can give you (Tamiflu) that can lessen the severity.
