How do you know when someone is just using you? Like if you're nice or kind hearted to them and they're just taking advantage. How do you know? What are signs? Especially if they're always cordial and friendly but it's just an act.

That's the thing, its not real easy to tell but some easy signs I saw when I found out that my best friend was just using me was the fact that 1 when ever we would hang out he'd end up asking me for money or if he said that he was hungry he'd say he couldn't buy food for himself cause he didn't have the cash for it so that I would feel bad and buy him something. 2 Other then if he needed money he really didn't talk to me as much anymore and if I tried to hang out with him he'd be like 'I need gas money' or something like that. And 3 I used to give him my ipod to borrow during class everyday and he'd give it back to me later that day well I didn't have it one day so then he didn't come to find me later on like he did when I did have it, then he was just using me for my music.
There's an easy way to tell if you really want to find out. Find out what hes using you for (or what you think hes using you for) and take it away for the day and see if it changes how he acts with/around you.
Example: I thought that my best friend was just hanging out with my so that he could use my ipod SO I took it away one day and he didn't want to hang out with me and he acted different and weird around me

When you begin to feel like you are not getting the same back in return. When you are doing way more giving than receiving, that most likely you are being used.
Step back for a minute, or stop giving and see if the relationship continues. If that person, no longer hangs around, then they were just there for what they could get.

sounds like you are doubting someone, trust your instincts... if you dont feel he has the right intentions, chances are he doesnt... try and figure it out. but always trust your instinct!!
