I am a female practitioner (hence where ashtangi comes from). I can't tell you how it's changed me physically, spiritually and emotionally.
I started practicing due to severe sciatica pain. After two months I never experienced it again and that was four years ago. I also became more aware of what I was doing with my body. If a had a very heavy meal, I would feel it in my practice the next day. I have had a lot less depression and anxiety. It really depends on how deep you want to take your practice. Some people keep it physical and others become intrigued in the 7 other limbs of practice.
You have to experiment with what style works for you. I started with 'Power Yoga' but wanted a more traditional style so switched to Ashtanga. It's really entirely up to you. Whatever makes you feel happy at the end of the practice is the one you choose. The downside: dedication and discipline The upside of down: learning dedication and discipline.

Personally - I think you'll really enjoy it. The advantages include increased flexibility, blood flow, and relaxation. The only disadvantage I've found is I pulled a few muscles by trying to push myself too far. Just be gentle on yourself and you'll be okay.

I've really only done yoga as the secular version of just stretching and strengthening my body, but it was great - made me more flexible, improved my posture, was low impact on my crummy knees. I'd say go for it.
...oh yeah the first week you do it you might get a headache, because you'll be releasing a lot of toxins - but drinking lots of water helps.

The objective of yoga as a discipline is to lead a person to the spiritual experience of being "yoked" to or merged with a superhuman spirit. But which spirit would that be?
The bible tells us to avoid spiritism .Yoga is a form of spiritsm so Its not a good idea if your a lover of god Lev 19:31,Rev 21:8

I love yoga. It makes me feel so much better. It just takes a couple times to get the kinks out.

If u try it, but end up not liking it, at least it will have kept you out of trouble for a while. and you will have learned if your body can handle the demands of yoga.
if u dont like it, u should try Taoist Thai-Chi
pretty similar i think.....
clearing the mind, streatching the mucsles, great for older people and anyone who needs to blow off steam the peaceful way.

its awesome!!if your not very flexible it could be hard. it also depends on what you want, yoga is relaxing and somewhat strengthening but if your looking for a really good work out try pilates. make sure you have a clear mind and comfortable.
