The cat's tail is the main part of their body for telling what they're feeling. Some think it's pleasing to have their tail groomed, some don't. Just like how some people like to be touched or rubbed in some places, other people dont. (ex. shoulder massages, tickle spots)

Some do and some don't - it depends on the personality of the cat. I have 4 cats and 3 of the four don't mind if you touch their tail....but my schizophrenic kitty doesn't like his tail or belly touched. He's afraid of his own shadow. Go figure!

Well ... if you rule out a medical reason / tail pain with your vet, from my experience, it's probably just because some cats are very much their own person and just like people, have their likes and dislikes ... some hate their tails touched, for some it's their paws, head, mouth, belly, back ... and from my experience, again, with cats, it's easier for us to just suck it up and deal with it and respect who they are, rather than try to make them change :-)

Probably the same reason most people feel that way.
