Usually, expiration dates on food..indicate when the food should be sold at the store. So, as long as its been in the freezer..it should be OK.

The ONLY time in my life I've ever gotten food poisoning it was from a Pot Pie. It had been in my freezer for several months.

I tell you, it was worse than giving birth. I wanted to die.

Needless to say, I would suggest that you find something else to eat, or run to the store and get another one. The cheap-o ones cost less than a buck.

No. Food that has been cooked (pot pies are pre-cooked to within 15 minutes of "done" - that is, if they were thawed to room temperature, it would only take 15 minutes in the oven to finish cooking them) and then promptly frozen contain the least amount of bacteria possible, and canned foods should contain no bacteria (they are heated to high temperature briefly after canning to kill bacteria, a process called "pastuerizing", after Louis Pastuer who discovered bacteria).

The "Use By" or "Expreration" date on frozen foods indicates "Freshness", not danger. Even though freezing stops the growth of bacteria (it doesn't kill it, just keeps it from multiplying), other chemical processes in food keep happening, although at a much slower rate than at room temperature.

Foods contain a number of protiens and enzymes that interact with each other, and with oxygen from the air. These chemical reactions will cause many foods to change in flavor, and especially in nutritional value over time, even when canned or frozen. That's why a can of fruit, for example, when passed its "Use By" date may contain no bacteria, but will be discolored, mushy, and taste bad. It won't hurt you, but it's not something you want to eat.

The danger lies in foods that were frozen, then thawed. As the temperature rises, any bacteria present will start to multiply again. At refrigerator temperature, which is a few degrees above freezing, bacteria growth is slowed, but not stopped. That's why fresh food still goes "bad" in the refrigerator after a few days, but uncooked food that was frozen is good for months, until the enzyme/protein reacations make it inedible, or at least yucky.

So, pre-cooked frozen items, if they have not been allowed to thaw and refreeze, will be edible well beyond their "Use By" dates, but they may not taste as good.

Take care with "fresh" foods that have been frozen, like raw meat, because as soon as it starts to thaw, bacteria will start growing again. Thaw quickly, and cook promptly.

According to the CDC you should be fine. The time limits placed on Frozen Food items is to maintain flavor and texture. Hope that helps

If it as been in the freezer all this time, it will be fine. The quality will have degraded very slightly due to evaporation of moisture.

I highly doubt it. It's frozen so it hasn't been in an enviornment conducive to spoiling. Though If you feel sick, you'll know what caused it.

No. as long as it is frozen and hasn't thawed, that is just the best before date. After that, the company won't guarrantee its freshness.
